The festival has grown from a series of events at Te Mata Estate in the barrel rooms of the winery in Havelock North into the annual festival it is now, with a brilliant reputation for fine writers and hospitality.
The festival is run by The Hawkes Bay Readers and Writers Charitable Trust, a team of enthusiastic volunteers with a passion for literature.
The connection with wine is not accidental. We live in Hawke's Bay wine country and see the connection between fine words, fine wine and fine food as being important to our region. We prefer the companionship of a table of friends and aim to incorporate this into the festival events.
We do our best to provide affordable events (with a mixture of 'koha' and ticketed events if possible) to be accessible to as many readers as possible.
